How To Stop Judging People – 12 Methods

We are human, we like to judge without really knowing someone, we like to put labels, and make comparisons between us. One is more beautiful, one is more introverted, one is smarter, or the other is too easy-going.

But in the end, no one has the right to judge our lives, us as people, our choices or mistakes, the way we look or our feelings.

After all, who are we to judge others? To judge their life or the way they look?

Are we somehow perfect?

Look in the mirror and first judge yourself, then judge the others.

Here Are 12 Methods That Can Help To Stop Judging People:

#1 Focus On The Present

I’m talking about the present—not today, not this hour, only this exact moment. You might be getting chewed out by your boss, or your spouse, or even a friend, but what in this exact moment is happening that’s so bad?

Forget the comment he or she made five minutes ago. It is best to forget what he might say five minutes from now. Focus on this one, individual moment.

In most situations, you will find it’s not as bad as you imagine it to be.

Most times we judge others from a memory of a recent event or the exaggerated imagination of a potential future event.

Stay in the present moment.

#2 Hang Out With Positive People

It is frequently said that you will have a similar level of income, health, and lifestyle as the 5 people you spend the most time with.

So if you want to start a business then start hanging out with business owners … want to be fit then start hanging out with fit people…And if you want to be positive and be less judgemental, make sure you’re hanging out with similar people.

#3 Forgive Yourself

Constantly beating yourself up about things that have gone wrong won’t change them.

Tell yourself that you’re forgiven for your mistakes and allow yourself to move on.

#4 Meditate

Meditation is one of the most popular ways to find inner peace and generate positive thinking.

A negative mindset can lead to judgemental thinking.

Tip – make the time to meditate every day. In the beginning, you may find this to be tough, however, you will soon learn to control it.

Fortunately, it takes only 30 minutes per day to get the peace and strength you need to survive the day, and we all have this small amount of time for ourselves. And if you think you don’t – you need meditation more than you think.

#5 Smile

Smiling will give you an instantaneous attitude boost. Try smiling for a minute while you think of the last thing that made you smile or a happy memory.

Smiling releases serotonin and endorphins, also known as the feel-good hormones.

It’s a lot easier to adopt a less judgemental thinking when the chemicals being released by your body are conducive to well-being.

#6 Get Enough Sleep

When we’re grumpy and tired (and possibly judgmental), nothing goes smoothly. Get around seven hours of sleep per night and regenerate your body completely.

Note – not getting enough sleep may increase the risk of developing particular illnesses. Some of the health problems are:

  • greater likelihood of accidents;
  • weight gain;
  • reduced immune system functioning;
  • impaired memory;
  • increased risk of heart disease and cancer;
  • greater risk of depression and anxiety.

#7 Recognize and Replace Negative Thoughts

Negative thinking patterns can have a strong and occasionally devastating impact on our relationships, our work, our health, and our lives.

Also, you won’t be successful at being less judgemental if you’re still plagued by frequent negative thoughts.

Learn to recognize and replace thoughts that are overly negative. Frequently, thoughts that include words like “always” and “never” signal that they aren’t true.

#8 Use Books, Videos, And Audio To Overload Your Brain With Positivity

There are millions of amazing books, videos, and audio for you to absorb from people who are living the life of their dreams.

Tap into their experience and their positive emotions by learning what they do to create the lives they want and how they think.

You can do this in the morning or while exercising, commuting, eating, cleaning. or cooking … there’s always time for positivity.

#9 Start The Day With Positive Affirmations

How you start the morning sets the tone for the rest of the day.

Have you ever woken up late, panicked, and then felt like nothing good happened the rest of the day?

This is most likely since you started out the day with a pessimistic view and a negative emotion that carried into every other event you experienced.

Instead of letting this dominate you, start your day with positive affirmations. Talk to yourself in the mirror, even if you feel silly, with statements such as:

”I put myself into a more powerful mindset by being free of self-judgment.”

” I Release Any Need to Judge Others or Myself.”

#10 Push Out All Feelings That Aren’t Positive

Don’t let negative feelings and thoughts overwhelm you when you are feeling down.

Even if it’s only for several hours per day, only focus on the good things in your life by pushing your negativity aside.

#11 Carry An Attitude of Happiness With You

Happiness is an attitude, not a situation. Therefore, instead of waiting for external things to make you happy, be happy and then watch how that influences the things that go on around you.

That is, instead of telling yourself that first something good has to happen, and then you will be happy, be happy first.

#12 Deep Breathing

Your breath is a powerful and effective instrument to ease stress and make you feel less anxious.

In addition, when you focus on your breathing, your mind’s attention is drawn to the life-enhancing process of drawing in air and exhaling.

Tip – take 5 long, deep breaths and focus on your lungs and diaphragm as you do this. This is an easy method to instantly feel calm and avoid judging others.
