Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev – A Spiritual TED Lecture:

In this video, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev presents us at TED India in 2009 the story of his enlightenment and his mission in life.

Born on 3 September 1957 into a Telugu family in Mysore, Karnataka is a mystic, yogi, a visionary humanitarian and author of over 100 titles in 8 different languages.

He is also the founder of Isha Foundation, which works as a vehicle for transmitting the tools for inner transformation for individual well-being. A few of Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev books: Life and Death in one breath, Sadhguru – More than a life, Encounter the Enlightened, Essential Wisdom From A Spiritual Master and The Mystic Eye.

Some of the social initiatives by Isha Foundation include Action for Rural Rejuvenation, providing health to the rural masses at their doorsteps through mobile clinics and community health care centers. Project Green Hands has taken on the dimensions of a mass movement with the objective to bring up the green cover in Tamil Nadu to 33%.

This target is to be achieved by planting 114 million trees in the next 8-10 years.

Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev had his first experience with yoga at age 11 and learned a few asanas from Malladihalli Sri Raghavendra Swamiji.

“Without a single day’s break, this simple yoga that was taught to him kept happening and led to a much deeper experience later.” – Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev’s quote.

On the afternoon of September 23, 1982, in Chamundi Hill, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev had an intense spiritual experience.

“Till that moment in my life, I always thought this is me and that’s somebody else and something else. But for the first time, I did not know which is me and which is not me.

Suddenly, what was me was just all over the place. The very rock on which I was sitting, the air that I breathe, the very atmosphere around me, I had just exploded into everything. That sounds like utter insanity.

This, I thought it lasted for ten to fifteen minutes but when I came back to my normal consciousness, I was about four-and-a-half-hours I was sitting there, fully conscious, eyes open, but time had just flipped…Something was happening within me. I did not know what it was. All I knew was – I’ve hit a goldmine and I didn’t want to lose it.”

In 1983, he conducted his first yoga class with seven participants in Mysore and in 1993, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev decided to set up an ashram to support the growing number of spiritual aspirants, situated at the foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains, thirty kilometers from Coimbatore.

When asked “Sadhguru with the mind that I carry, is liberation possible for me too?”, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev replied:

“Definitely it is possible. Why is it not possible? It is possible for every human being in this life. It is just that you have to make it possible. If you have to make it possible, the first thing is, it must become the only priority in your life. People have so many other priorities, on the side, they got spirituality also going. If it is so, it will never happen.

Only if it is the one and only purpose in your life, it is not far away. In a moment it can happen. If all your energies are focused in one direction, it is not far away. After all, what you are seeking is already within you. If this mukti or liberation is sitting on a mountain, you can ask this question, whether it is possible or not.

When it is within you, is somebody stopping you? The only barrier is you, isn’t it? If you are willing who can stop you? So all the sadhana is just to make you willing. That’s all. Sadhana is not for enlightenment.

Enlightenment is not far way. But to make a person one hundred percent willing, it takes time because you have layers and layers of resistance. It takes time to work through the resistance, to make them absolutely willing. If you were a very simple human being, ‘Come, follow me’ would have worked wonderfully. But now calculations have come into your minds.”
