3 Negative Effects Of The Spiritual Awakening Process

We must be aware that this spiritual journey we are experiencing in this lifetime is a continuation of all spiritual journeys we got through along our previous existences, being more or less aware of this.

Nowadays, most people are concerned with knowledge and understanding of physical phenomena and material issues they face in their everyday life but are almost completely ignorant regarding their own being and the extraordinary and beneficial potential which lies unawakened within them.

For them, the world they live in is the outside world, all of which is visible and surrounds them.

If we were to ask them who they are, they would describe themselves by their name, occupation, form or state in which they are at that moment in life, what they were or wish to become, or by various unessential aspects to which their minds identifies.

Others, interested in spiritual matters to some extent, will say they are divine spirits or immortal souls, or they will describe themselves using different concepts more or less interesting or spiritual, which their minds have embraced and have come to identify with, not knowing them profoundly.

Therefore, we are witnessing a paradox – human beings can travel in space, but they ignore what they have in the deepness of their beings, or they dive into the deepest oceans but fail to dive into themselves, remaining insensitive to the treasures that lie within their heart.

By completely identifying with the ephemeral and limited egoistic personality, they have no idea who they truly are, what is their essential nature.

From this perspective, we can say that most human beings, even in a state of wakefulness, are deeply asleep.

Ego gives us the illusion that we have a certain personality, the fact that we are limited by time and space, although the ego also pushes us to act like we have all the time in the world on our hands and makes us believe that nothing can stand in the way of fulfilling our worldly desires.

Usually, the ego is the one who thinks, speaks, it endorses our feelings and actions, and that is why it is imperative to know its mechanisms of operation, not to fall again and again into the trap of identifying with it and considering it our true nature.

When we begin to notice the unconsciousness that defines us, the sleeping state in which we are, our consciousness itself makes us realize this and will gradually determine the spiritual awakening process.

All we have to do then is to let the light of consciousness enter our whole being.

Thus, we will come to realize that, in fact, we are one with that light, and we will begin to seek the true meaning of our existence and to discover divine spiritual truths.

However, this spiritual awakening process has several negative aspects that you need to be aware of:

#1 You May Experience The Dark Night Of The SoulThe Dark Night Of The Soul

The dark night of the soul is a spiritual depression that requires a deep and painful dip that must be experienced before spiritual enlightenment.

The hardest part of the dark night of the soul is to face your shadow that contains the repressed parts of yourself, such as your beliefs, traumas, desires, and fears.

Mateo Sol explained:

“While the Dark Night of the Soul is a process of death, the Spiritual Awakening Process is the rebirth.”

During his spiritual awakening process, Eckhart Tolle said that he suffered from unbearable dread and thoughts of suicide.

During an interview, Tolle recalled:

“I couldn’t live with myself any longer. And in this, a question arose without an answer: who is the ‘I’ that cannot live with the self? What is the self? I felt drawn into a void.”

Eckhart Tolle went on to say:

”I didn’t know at the time that what really happened was the mind-made self, with its heaviness, its problems, that lives between the unsatisfying past and the fearful future, collapsed. It dissolved.”

The first writings about the Dark Night of the Soul come from Saint John of the Cross, a mystic and Roman Catholic saint.

Saint John of the Cross was imprisoned for 8 years due to his beliefs. For him, the dark night was a painful period that revealed deep truths to him.

He even wrote a poem regarding the dark night. The final stanza of the poem is:

”I abandoned and forgot myself,
laying my face on my Beloved;
all things ceased; I went out from myself,
leaving my cares
forgotten among the lilies.”

The third eye is located in the middle of the forehead, about an inch above the eyebrows. Its significance appears in every ancient culture throughout the world.

A fully activated third eye allows you to perceive the world through a higher perspective. It allows you to begin to perceive the “Truth” that surrounds you.

In sporadic cases, your third eye can open during a spiritual awakening process. Even if this seems interesting, it is not.

Typically, opening the third eye is a long and hard process that requires years of meditation retreats, purification, the knowledge to use energy, and the guidance of a true spiritual teacher.

Note – avoid the books of fake author Lobsang Rampa (real name – Cyril Henry Hoskins).

At the end of this process, the practitioner has his mental, emotional, and physical bodies purified as well as a high energetic level. But, this is not the case for most people who are experiencing a spiritual awakening process. Learn here about the dangers of opening your third eye.

#3 Friends And/Or Family Estrangement

One of the hardest parts of going through a spiritual awakening process is that many of your relationships begin to change, shift, or even end.

At some point, you may feel that you and a friend (spouse of family members) don’t connect anymore, whether you find you feel they are treating you differently lately or have less in common.

If you have little or nothing to talk about anymore, it may be a big sign that your friendship or relationship as you knew it has come to an end.

Note – this is probably the biggest negative aspect of spiritual awakening since, according to research by Nicholas Christakis at Yale, relationships are the number one promoter of happiness in life.

But, as time passes, you may form new bonds with people who have similar beliefs and interests.
