6 Ways to Make Your Morning Workout Routine More Bearable

Many people struggle with working out in the morning, as no one really likes to get up out of bed while the sun is still down, especially in the winter when it’s cold outside. But think about the benefits too.

No matter what the day brings to you, later on, you’ll always know that you’ve already done your workout routine for the day.

Transitioning from an evening exerciser to a morning one can be extremely difficult though, which is why you’ll need a great morning routine, one that won’t make you snooze the alarm when it wakes you up.

In this article, we’ll show you just how you can improve your workout routine and make your morning workout something to look forward to.

#1 Never Skip a Breakfast

Even if you’re on a strict diet the last thing you want to do is to skip breakfast and head straight to the gym. Not only will your morning be more miserable, but you might also be burning calories from your muscles, instead of burning through your fat.

Breakfast is the most important meal for losing weight, but it’s also proven that people who skip breakfast tend to exercise less regularly – which is really bad for what we’re trying to do here. This isn’t to say that you should eat heavily before working out but do make sure you’ve eaten before going out.

#2 Prepare Everything the Night Before

I can’t begin to tell you how much easier it is to prepare everything you’ll need for your workout routine the night before than it is in the morning when you get up. Before you hit the bed, just choose whatever you’ll need for your morning exercise and put it in an accessible spot.

When you open your eyes in the morning and see your equipment waiting – you’ll have an easier time to get up. This is especially important if you’re working out before you go to work, as you can also use those extra few minutes to sleep a bit longer in the morning.

#3 Keep the Alarm on the Other Side of the Room

This one’s dead simple, people love hitting that STOP button once the alarm starts ringing your dreams away. By keeping your alarm on the other side of the room you’ll at least force yourself to get out of bed, at which point you might as well just get up.

I’ve used to turn off the alarm completely subconsciously, so I’ve even started hiding the alarm from myself, which worked out wonders as I had to turn on my brain in order to find it. Whatever works for you, just ensure that you’re up when that thing starts ringing.

#4 Take it Easy in the Start

If you’re just transitioning from an evening exerciser to a morning one, it might be too difficult to try and train five days in a row in the morning. This is because you’ll be getting up at least 60-90 minutes earlier than what you’re used to, and that can take a toll on your habits in the beginning.

Try training 3 days in the beginning, but do get up at the same time every day, as that will help you develop a habit.

#5 Bicycles are Great for the Mornings

On some days you’ll want to change up your morning routine, so if you’re already biking a lot you might want to go for a run instead. However, for most people who don’t cycle often enough, I can’t stress just how beautiful the experience can be in the morning when there’s no one in the streets.

If you don’t have one already, make sure to check out bicycles online and get one for your morning routine. On the days when you’re not working out in the morning, it can also be a good idea just to take your bike to work, which will partially count as a workout, but also help with saving the environment.

#6 Warm Up and Stretch

This one’s especially important for people who are used to training in the evening. Mornings are different, as your body just spent a lot of time expending no energy, so you need to invest more time to warm up than what you’re probably used to. When you get out of bed, make sure you stretch a bit, since this will go a long way to ensure you don’t injure yourself while working out.

Bottom Line

Working out in the morning will also help you sleep better at night, as you’ll be so worn-out by the evening that you’ll have no problems falling asleep. This will also make it easier for you to get up for your next workout.

Also, don’t be afraid to bring a partner for your morning routine either, as everything’s more fun when done in the company of your loved ones.
