Maitreya Buddha Mantra lyrics:

”NAMO RATNA TRAYAYA NAMO BHAGAVATE

BIJA SMARA SMARA AHSMA KAM SAMAYA BODHI BODHI
MAHA BODHI SVAHA.”

Maitreya Buddha Mantra translation by Lama Yeshe:

”Homage to the Lord Shakyamuni, Tathagata, Arhat, Completely Perfect Buddha
Om Invincible, Invincible, Unconquered
Conquer the Unconquered, take, take
You Who Look Down with Friendliness, act, act
Bring, bring the fulfillment of your great pledge
Shake the seat of great awakening
Remember, remember pledge for us
Awakening, awakening, great awakening, svaha.”

More Information

Maitreya (Sanskrit), Jampa (Tibetan), or Mile Pusa (Chinese) is the honored future Buddha who currently resides in the Tusita heaven, a heaven where all Bodhisattvas, even Shakyamuni Buddha, reside before their rebirth on earth to become Buddhas.

He is also known to Westerners as the “fat Buddha,” “happy Buddha,” or “laughing Buddha.”

He is still the only bodhisattva generally honored by the Theravada tradition.

According to Buddhist tradition, he is a Bodhisattva who will appear on Earth in the future, to achieve complete enlightenment and teach the pure dharma.

According to the scriptures, Jampa will be a successor to the present Buddha, Gautama Buddha (also known as Shakyamuni Buddha).

The prophecy of the arrival of Jampa refers to a time in the future when the dharma will have been forgotten by most of the terrestrial world. This prophecy is found in the canonical literature of all major schools of Buddhism.

Shakyamuni Buddha predicted that due to the inevitable numerous human reincarnation of the times, his own teachings would last just five thousand years. People’s spiritual believe will decrease, and their lifespan will gradually shorten, as will their health and morality.

While such delusions as miserliness, hatred, and jealousy gain strength, a great savior and leader will come on earth to begin a new era and establish guidance directing the people on the TRUE path.

Text from Buddhist Scriptures, translated by Edward Conze:

“Maitreya, the best of men, will then leave the Tushita heavens, and go for his last rebirth into the womb of that woman. For ten whole months, she will carry about his radiant body. Then she will go to a grove full of beautiful flowers, and there, neither seated nor lying down, but standing up, holding onto the branch of a tree, she will give birth to Maitreya.

He, supreme among men, will emerge from her right side, as the sun shines forth when it has prevailed over a bank of clouds. No more polluted by the impurities of the womb than a lotus by drops of water, he will fill this entire Triple world with his splendor.

As soon as he is born, he will walk seven steps forward, and where he puts down his feet, a jewel or a lotus will spring up. He will raise his eyes to the ten directions and will speak these words: “This is my last birth. There will be no more rebirth after this one. Never will I come back here, but, all pure, I shall win Nirvana!”
